Rainsong Wildlife Sanctuary and Penjamo Community Wildlife Refuge The Rainsong Sanctuary and Wildlife Rescue Center are located in Cabuya, on the edge of Costa Rica's oldest National Park, "Reserva Natural Absoluta Cabo Blanco." Our community refuge stretches from Playa Coyote to Paquera, including (to date) almost 3000 hectares (7500 acres) of protected habitat, a figure already larger than the nearby Cabo Blanco Reserve, and this figure is growing rapidly as additional property owners sign up.

Cabo Blanco National Park The Cabo Blanco Park is the clearest example that forests can be regenerated if efforts toward conservation are pursued. This great park, extending for 1250 hectares in the outer tip of the Nicoya peninsula, was mainly composed of devastated lands by indiscriminate deforestation in the 1960's when the park was created. Now, it's a fully regenerated secondary forest full of huge native trees of all species and abundant wildlife. The park can be explored by following several paths that are available to visitors. The longest trail is about 3.5 km. long and takes you to the beach right in front of the Cabo Blanco Island.

The Montezuma Waterfall Canopy Tour one of the zone’s premier attractions. The canopy consists of a series of nine cables and eleven platforms suspended high above the forest floor. The guests glide along the cables using a pully and a breaking device. While on the canopy tour you will see a number of plants and animals unique to Costa Rica, possibly including howler and white-faced monkeys, parrots, and iguanas. The course follows the Montezuma river and gives you an opportunity to visit the famous waterfalls where you can take pictures and go for a swim in the pools carved by the cascading waters. This is an experience that should not be missed.

Volcano watching is better than a fifty-fifty proposition, but you should plan on taking advantage of some of the other attractions in the area, and consider it a bonus if you see Arenal put on a huge display.
